Patrick L. Jones, Associate (Email:
pjones@sgbdc.com) Mr. Jones’ practice concentrates in the area of trademark, Internet domain name disputes, Customs enforcement and government relations. Mr. Jones joined the firm after working from May 2000 to 2001 as a law clerk for the Office of General Counsel of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, assisting with domain name disputes, Anticybersquatting litigation, Internet gambling, federal legislation and other legal issues. Since joining the Intellectual Property, Corporate and Litigation Practice Group, Mr. Jones has drafted complaints under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), Start-Up Trademark Opposition Policy (STOP), Sunrise Challenge Policy for .info, and assisted with Anticybersquatting litigation in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. He has also worked with Mr. Bikoff on Customs enforcement for the FIFA World Cup as well as on trademark applications for non-profit organizations, the biometric, wine and restaurant industries. Mr. Jones is a registered lobbyist with the United States Senate and House of Representatives. Mr. Jones graduated from Wabash College in 1996 and from the Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis in 2001. Since February 2001, he has served as the Editor of UDRPlaw.net, a portal for information on domain name disputes. The website has been cited by many international publications and law review articles, and is featured on the World Intellectual Property Organization's website. Mr. Jones has been a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, American Bar Association Intellectual Property Law Section and Sports and Entertainment Law Section. He is active in ICANN and Internet governance issues. He is the author of “Protecting Your SportsEvent.com: Athletic Organizations and the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy”, 5 W.Va. J. L. & Tech. 2.1, 2001. His articles have appeared in the Corporate Counsel's International Adviser, the World eBusiness Law Report and on NameProtect.com's Daily Trademark News Bulletin. *Admission to the DC Bar is pending.
